Botanical Painting

For years Kinnebrew has said painting botanical subjects is like your best day at the beach… just sheer pleasure. However, this isn’t the full story, artists are known to be careful observers frequently seeing things others miss or dismiss. From childhood Joseph has had a microscope, an observer with curiosity. There is a process here but always curiosity and his desire to capture not just an image but rather its “essence.” It is not replication, it is interpretation that Kinnebrew looks for, a relationship with the subject.

Often, he selects the object to carefully deconstruct it to better understand the construction. Comprehension is reflected in the finished work but not the primary intention. What the artist has done is better understand the anatomy, the raison d’etre, the beauty and purpose for existence.
The botanical images, original paintings and prints are frozen moments, memorializations of shared experience.
